Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was granted a patent related to a smart watch earlier this week. There is some speculation floating among investors and consumers that Apple is coming up with their brand new ‘iWatch’ later this year, but there was no official statement from the company. The granted patent fuels the speculations further about the Apple’s smartwatch release.

The patent application for ‘iTime’ was filed by the Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) back in 2011. There are several claims about this patent that could place their product in a different league, compared to the competitors. Fox Business Network’s Lauren Simonetti talked on Fox Business about the granted Apple’s patent and the possibility of their smartwatch release.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), Samsung, Apple Vs. Samsung, Is Apple a good stock to own?

Simonetti said that a lot of things could have changed in the technology taking into account that the patent was filed by Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) three years ago.

“Speculations now, perhaps, the watch functions without being fully connected to your phone or your tablet. So you can walk around, may be, leaving your phone at home and just do everything from the watch,” she said.

She further added to the speculations that the band connected to the watch might be a smartband, loaded with modules and sensors. The sensors loaded in the smartband might detect the user movements and respond to them. She said that just by waving the hand across, the user might be able to accept or decline the call and do lots of other stuff.

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s smartwatch is expected to be loaded with a lot of features and fancy things, but will this be a game changer or the next big thing for the company is the biggest question among the investors.

Simonetti said that there is no confirmation from Apple regarding their smart watch launch. She thinks that the patent is another hint that Apple could launch their smart watch. She speculated that their smartwatch might be a lot different compared to other smartwatches on the market.
