The Chinese authorities have launched a probe into what they are calling “alleged monopoly actions” by Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT). This is not the first time Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is facing an anti-monopoly probe and neither is Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) the first American tech company that is being probed by the Chinese authorities. Microsoft Corporation has faced similar probes in the European Union and other countries in the past, while the Chinese authorities are already probing companies like QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) and InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDCC) on various other charges.

Eunice Yoon from CNBC reported on the probe being conducted on Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and other American tech companies by Chinese authorities, from Beijing.

“China has confirmed an investigation into Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT). The State Administration for Industry and Commerce has said that the software giant is suspected of a monopoly. The agency cited compatibility issues for the Windows OS and Office software and said about one hundred officers raided Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s offices in various cities across China to gather more Information into the way Microsoft bundles its software and adds security features,” Yoon said.

Yoon also revealed that the government is investigating some of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s senior management and other personnel in China. She mentioned that the Chinese government added that some of the company’s employees have been out of reach and it is trying to get Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) to collaborate with the authorities.

“Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) had confirmed that the official visits on Monday and had said that it was happy to answer the government’s questions. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is the latest American company tech firm to face scrutiny from Beijing after Washington’s repeated accusations of Chinese cyber theft,” Yoon added.
