The dashboard of Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s Model S incorporates components from NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) as well as other suppliers, a recent teardown of the car’s dashboard reveals.

According to Re/code’s Arik Hesseldahl in a CNBC interview, the recent teardown of the Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) Model S dashboard by IHS Technology revealed that the console of the electric car includes two major NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) components as well as displays from TPK Holding Co., Ltd. (TPE:3673) and Japan Display Inc (TYO:6740).

“[…] they got a rare opportunity to buy a wrecked Tesla Model S – a slightly older one, early 2013 [and] not the very, very new one – but the electronics were completely intact and so completely working,” the senior editor said.

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) incorporated what Hesseldahl called a “gigantic” 17-inch main screen into the Model S dashboard. This is very atypical of car dashboard screens, the journalist noted, as it is very responsive.

However, this should not come as a surprise, Hesseldahl said, as this unit’s capacitive glass overlay was made by TPK Holding Co., Ltd. (TPE:3673), the same company which supplied the same touch screen technology for the first iPhone by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).Tesla, is TSLA a good stock to buy, IHS, NVIDIA, NVDA, NVIDIA Corporation, Arik HesseldahlIn his Re/code report, he pointed out that Innolux made the whole main display unit but other main display units may have been manufactured by Japan Display Inc (TYO:6740), a Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi joint venture, according to Andrew Rassweiler, the author of the reports of the IHS Technology Model S teardown. Japan Display Inc (TYO:6740) made the smaller instrument cluster display which shows the car’s speedometer and such.

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) utilized two Tegra Visual Computing Module by NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), the Re/code editor noted, which makes use of the Tegra 3. This can be seen as a big win for the chipmaker, he added, as the company is likely to have better margins for the automotive industry than the mobile devices space.

“Another big winner in this is NVIDIA. They supplied two modules per car. Their high-end Tegra 3 processor is inside this module that they sell. One drives that main display in the dashboard and the other one drives the instrument cluster for the speedometer and the other things the driver sees,” he explained.

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) shareholders includes Daniel Benton’s Andor Capital Management which reported 1.25 million shares in the car maker by the end of the second quarter.
