Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) was always lagging Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) in popularity and user base. Twitter has taken many initiatives over the years to bridge that gap. Twitter announced on Thursday about a new way to listen music and other audio files directly from the user timelines. The older method allowed the users to embed the audio file in the timeline, but the new method allows the user to listen to audio file directly on timeline, while browsing. Detail of the new capability in Twitter was described in a ‘NBC News’ article.

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) enhanced the music streaming capability in timeline by partnering with Berlin-based SoundCloud and iTunes. Both SoundCloud and iTunes allows the user to create ‘audio card’, which can then be used to play the audio directly on the timeline, while browsing the Twitter app. The company announced that this would enable many music artists to release their music directly to their fans.

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR)’s first partner for streaming music, SoundCloud allows users to listen to various music, podcasts and other type of audio files through various @SoundCloud partners. The article quoted a tweet from NASA, sharing their space sounds.

“Hear us! We’re on @Soundcloud. Sit back, listen & enjoy our spacey sounds: https://soundcloud.com/nasa ; https://soundcloud.com/nasa/apollo-11-thats-one-small-step-for-a-man …,” NASA was quoted as tweeting.

David Guetta, French DJ shared an exclusive remix to millions of his fans on Twitter through the SoundCloud audio card. Chicago Rap Star, Chance the Rapper also debuted a new single ‘Know betta blues’ through twitter using the audio card option. Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) mentioned that they are still testing the audio cards and it will be made available to more partners and creators in future to let the artists share their music to the millions of fans in a moment.

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) is also partnering with iTunes, which uses the same ‘audio card’ to share the music through the timeline. The Foo Fighters made the official release of a single from their forthcoming album “Sonic Highways” using iTunes.

Twitter also mentioned that the audio platform will be made available soon. These new additions might help reducing the heavy text-dependency of the platform and comfort the users through music and videos.

This new option might work very well with Twitter, since this allows the authentic release of artistic music by the musicians to their fans in a moment. We could see this as an increasing trend in the Twitter platform.

As of 30 June 2014, Ken Griffin’s Citadel Investment group hold around 330,000 Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) shares.
