How to tell what are the dirtiest countries in Europe? The European Environment Agency knows the difference.

Each year the agency obtains municipal water samples and does examination based on which specialists can tell bathing water quality. They consider beach cleanliness as well. In the end, we have a comprehensive water quality ranking. By the way, in Albania dirtiest beaches in whole Europe, but it’s not in the first place on our list.

Besides water test, European Environment Agency does studies on air pollution. According to them, we could tell that the worst situation with air pollution is in Eastern Europe countries.

So these are the first two indicators which were used to know the dirtiest countries in Europe.

Our list could be useful to tourists who are planning their trip so we’ve added another indicator.  It is provided by Zoover and it’s about public toilet cleanliness in Europe. By analyzing this indicator we could see how the government cares about its public places. For example, Turkey has good water quality and doesn’t have great problems with air pollution but it leads the pack in terms of the dirty toilets and dirty city streets.

Finally, we’re approaching to the fourth indicator. It is about the overall cleanliness of the cities in the particular countries. This includes cleanliness of the streets. The biggest cities are like business cards for the countries that’s why it is important to know whether their streets dirty or not.

So keeping that in mind, we came up with the list of 10 Dirtiest Countries in Europe. We analyzed European countries based on our four indicators and gave them points from 10 to 1 where the bigger is the point the dirtier is the city. The dirtiness of the public toilets a standalone indicator with points from 5 to 1.
