In a discussion on CNBC, Herb Greenberg, a journalist and a CNBC contributor, talked about Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR).

Greg Harmon, Facebook, is FB a good stock to buy, is TWTR a good stock to buy, TWTR

With the rising competition between social media networks in the mobile space and the growing use of Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) on mobile platforms, Greenberg refused to agree with the fact that Facebook will alone rule the mobile social network space.

“I understand, I am biased because I am big user of Twitter, I am a big user of Facebook.” said Greenberg. Adding further Greenberg said:

“But even if I take myself out of it, if Twitter can convince Mom & Pop that they have got the news feed. I have been saying this for a very long time. The news feed is there to everywhere you are. You can find stuff out that you haven’t found out; you created your own; whatever you want to follow, it’s a time waste, if you want to call it, for many people. The fact of the matter is, I think that will help twitter certainly become a competitor.”

According to Greenberg, the news feed function on Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) is something that everyone will like to use, and that is what will make Twitter competitive. Greenberg said that both Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) are used for two different purposes and even if Twitter has reached a peak of its usage it is not going to go away.

On the question of large numbers of competing platforms available for consumers, Greenberg said, “I think the survivors are Facebook and Twitter.”

Moreover, the recent plan of Facebook to add a “Buy Button” for advertisers and retailers’ posts will also lead to an increase in the time that people spend on the social network as well as open up a new channel of online sales for companies that use Facebook as part of their marketing efforts. The “Buy Button” can lead to impulse buying by Facebook users for various products & services that are advertised.

“I am the only member in my family who uses Twitter, which is really scary.” said Greenberg while agreeing to the fact that Facebook is used by almost every one, but Twitter is used mostly by professionals like media persons for promoting themselves, spreading recent news and it is rarely used by the common people.
