Global events might come once in a while, but the impact they normally cause is unimaginable. The glitz and glamor at the ongoing world cup show piece has had its fair share impact on the popularity of Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR), positively providing one of the best platforms for advertising. The world cup, for instance, has been the perfect place to determine the value of Twitter according to Shailesh Rao, the Vice-President for APAC, Americas and Emerging Markets at Twitter in an interview on CNBC.

Advertisers have essentially learned how to use Twitter as an advertising platform, not only until the end of the world cup but for the long run considering people will continue following their teams even after the end of the global piece.

“The world cup has become a great way to engage users in the emerging markets to give them a reason to follow players , to follow their teams, and get a better experience out of watching the matches,” said Mr. Rao.

Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR) has experienced increased traffic of use from Asian markets such as Japan, India and Indonesia as people continue to interact based on the ongoing in Brazil. The fact that people like to share the moments that they like means that Twitter stands a better chance to continue growing according to Rao. The world cup event has already seen over 300 million tweets during the event, which is nearly double the amount tweets that were registered during the London Olympics.

This essentially shows that people are starting to acknowledge Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR) as a perfect connecting platform in which they can connect across the globe. Twitter is all but set to make a huge amount of returns in terms of advertisement revenue as more advertiser continue to choose the platform due to its mass audience.

Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR) has already grown in Asia at the back of the Asian people tweeting more on the Luis Suarez bite. The Brazilian match with Chile saw a huge amount of traffic in Twitter, which was recorded at 389,000 tweets a minute.  The major concern at the moment is the way militants groups in Syria and Iraq have essentially hijacked various hashtags to propagate their agendas.
