martwatch when it comes out, it was pointed out in a discussion on Bloomberg featuring Jeff Clavier and Barry Ritholtz.

The discussion comes as talks continue among observers of the technology industry about whether Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will release a smartwatch called either the iWatch or the iTime and what it will do for the wearables industry and for the iPhone maker. Of course, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has long been often mentioned in discussions about the wearables market as it already has its Google Glass project.

Google, Apple, is Google a good stock to buy, is Apple a good stock to buy, Google Glass, iWatch, iTime, Jeff Clavier, Barry Ritholtz

According to Clavier, the smartwatch, if ever Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) decides to launch one, will be for a very specific audience the iPhone-maker will be targeting. He said that essentially, smartwatches are miniature versions of smartphones and are devices that provide some features of the smartphone while being worn on someone’s wrist.

“The smartwatch is a very specific device which is sort of a small version of the features that you have in your cell phone. There might be sort of a very geeky audience that wants to have some of those features available [on their wrists],” he said.

It was then pointed out in the discussion that in essence, this audience the SoftTech VC founder is identifying who will buy the iWatch is the same audience who have bought and are wearing the Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Glass.

According to Clavier, the key for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in order to have more success than Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and its Glass wearable with its smartwatch is to price the watch correctly.

Clavier added that he will likely not replace his regular watch which he considers as a men’s jewelry piece and wear an iWatch because he does not see the need for one, even if it is made by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), a company he admires.

Watch the video below where Bloomberg View columnist Barry Ritholtz discusses his thoughts on the iWatch and the wearables industry which Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is also a player in.
