Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is implying that the Fire Phone has had slower uptake than the company expected as the company announced that its smartphone can be had for just $0.99.

The move to discount the Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) smartphone comes after it was just launched over a month ago by the electronic retail giant.

According to Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), the $0.99 deal for the 32GB Amazon Fire Phone is available for customers through the Amazon website and AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) sites and stores. For the price, the smartphone will have to be purchased with a two-year contract on AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T).

The internet commerce behemoth is also throwing in a 1-year Prime membership as well as unlimited cloud storage for photos and Mayday 24×7 support with the deal. The free Amazon Prime membership means that people who will purchase the Fire Phone under this deal will have Prime Instant Video, Prime Music and Kindle Owner’s Lending Library.

“Fire is now 99 cents with a two-year contract, plus customers get one full year of Prime included. With access to all of the Prime content, Mayday, 32GB of memory and free unlimited cloud storage for photos, plus the exclusive Dynamic Perspective and Firefly features, Fire is another example of the value Amazon delivers to customers,” Ian Freed, Vice President, Amazon Devices, said in a statement.

According to the company, users can also pay $0 down and $18.75 per month for 24 months under the AT&T NEXT 18 program. This offer was launched by the company by the end of August.

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has not divulged exact sales figures for its first ever smartphone but industry observers believe that a discount on the new phone is a sign that sales has not really taken off for the device.

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) shareholders includes John Griffin’s Blue Ridge Capital which reported 810,000 shares in the company by the end of the first half of this year.
