Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is set to unveil its new devices in its September 9 media event. While some people expect it to be the next generation of the iPhone, others believe it’s going to be a smartwatch, dubbed the iWatch. Rumors regarding Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s upcoming devices is nothing new, the company faces it every time it is about to launch a new device. One rumor that can be true although is that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is planning to use NFC technology in its next generation iPhone. Kara Swisher, co-executive editor at Re/code, discussed what to expect from the company’s September 9 event on CNBC.

Meanwhile, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has sent invites for its September 9 event to many media houses. The unique thing about the invite is that it has a tagline that says ‘wish we could say more’. The Street is busy deciphering the code behind this tagline; most people expect that the company is going to unveil something related to voice technology.

 “Probably the biggest story is going to be this payment thing. I think, it has been less reported, but has been reported including by us. I think, payment really is going to be an interesting part of it. Even though everyone is focused on the hardware, which is probably super cool. I think payment is a big deal and a big business,” Swisher said.

Swisher believes that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will also launch a wearable device in its September 9 media event. She feels that whatever has been done in the wearable devices space till now has been incremental and if Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is going to enter that space it is going to bring a dramatic change, owing to its reputation of being one of the best innovation-focused companies.

As of June 30, 2014, Carl Icahn’s Icahn Capital LP owns over 52.7 million shares in Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).
