Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) it seems is taking its fight with Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) to the next level. The company recently unveiled its ‘Project Wing’ under which it is developing drones that will be able to carry and deliver goods. Now, delivery drones are nothing new, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) unveiled its own drone delivery project quite some time ago. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s announcement of testing its deliver drones in Australian countryside came on the back of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s announcement earlier this week that it has acquired Twitch, a company that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) was also eyeing for acquisition. That makes us wonder if Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) made this announcement right now precisely to upset Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)? The ‘Squawk on the Street’ team discussed Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Project Wing on CNBC earlier today.

“Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is taking its battle with Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) to the skies, the Internet search giant says it’s developing drones capable of delivering goods under what it calls Project Wing. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) says test flights in Australia delivered a first-aid kit, candy bars, dog treats, cattle vaccines, water and radios to farmers earlier this month,” Carl Quintanilla said.

Quintanilla mentioned that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) expects that it will take several years before its project becomes fully functional. Till now, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has done 30 successful drops using the drones it has developed. Quintanilla wondered what the FAA will do if the company carries drone experiments in the U.S., owing to the fact that it’s illegal to operate private drones in the U.S. Quintanilla also revealed that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s co-founder Sergey Brin is personally overseeing the ‘Project Wings’.

As of June 30, 2014, Ken Fisher’s Fisher Asset Management owns over 2.4 million shares of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) and David Tepper’s Appaloosa Management LP owns over 600,000 shares of  Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL).
