Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is set to launch an early preview version of Windows 9 exclusively for developers at a press event in late September. The Verge broke this news in one of its articles recently. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has code-named the preview version as ‘Threshold’. Even though September 30 is the most likely date for the press event, it may be changed.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is  in the development stages of threshold, which is going to be the successor of Windows 8, or, as some people are calling it, ‘Windows 9’. The preview version is expected to be released exclusively for developers and enthusiasts, after Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) unveils it at the press event. The preview version is expected to come with the new mini Start Menu, a feature that was removed from Windows 8 and caused a lot of distress to users. The ‘Threshold’ will also see the removal of the charms bar and some significant UI changes. Though the ‘Threshold’ is expected to be the Windows 9 in the making, it’s unlikely that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will launch it with that name at the press event.

As of June 30, 2014 Jeffrey Ubben‘s ValueAct Capital owns approximately 74.2 million shares in Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), making it one of the largest shareholders of the company.
