Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) announced, in a press release on Wednesday, that John W. Stanton, a wireless industry pioneer, will be appointed to its board. Mr. Stanton currently serves as chairman of Trilogy International Partners, a wireless operator in Central and South America and New Zealand and Trilogy Equity Partners, a private equity fund that invests in early-stage growth opportunities in the wireless ecosystem.

John W. Thompson, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s Chairman said: “John brings extraordinary experience in the mobile communications industry and deep business acumen, and we are delighted that he is joining Microsoft’s board of directors”

In addition to the Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) ‘s board Mr. Stanton currently serves as a director of Columbia Sportswear Co., he graduated from Whitman College and received his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Mr. Stanton has years of experience in leading the wireless industry, in the 1980’s he was the CEO and Vice Chairman of McCaw Cellular. Between 1992 and 2005 he was the CEO and Chairman of Western Wireless Corp. and in the period of 1995-2003 he was the CEO and Chairman of VoiceStream Wireless, which after acquisition by Deutsche Telekom was later named T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS).
