As containers are the easiest and cheapest way of transporting goods, we did a little research to find out what are the largest container shipping companies in the world.
There are many sizes of shipping containers with different capacities. These container ships may come as a small feeder, feeder, feedermax, Panamax, Post-Panamax, New Panamax and ultra-large. The capacity of them is measured in twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), and due to this label, you can charge your container. Feeders come up to 3,000 TEU, while all containers over 14,500 TEU are known as ultra-large containers vessels.
As one of the biggest container shipping company, China COSCO Shipping has the capacity of 1,62 million TEU and have worked out plans to expand its size to over double by the year of 2018. this company was formed by merging of COSCO Group and China Shipping Group in Shanghai in January and it already owns 290 vessels.
On the other hand, there is Mediterranean Shipping Company with the overall capacity of 2,83 million TEU of their 481 vessels. As this company is established back in 1970, it had enough time to expand itself, and their plan came out perfectly because they now operate in 480 offices across 150 countries worldwide.
