Refugees are one of the most common topics in the newspapers these days but have you ever thought about what countries produce the most refugees in the world? With the refugee crisis currently wreaking havoc around the globe, it is imperative to be aware of the origins of these unfortunate people.

One of these countries is The Central African Republic the number of refugees is 471,100. It’s appalling and quite saddening that an African country suffering from a violent civil war does not grab the attention of anyone anymore, because the truth is, it does not sound like anything unusual. Another one is African country, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, the number of refugees is 541,500. The civil wars that have plagued the Democratic Republic of the Congo for years have left it ranking 176 out of 188 countries on the Human Development Index. The wars, coupled with malnutrition, have taken approximately six million lives. The idea that a person who sought sanctuary in a holy place could not be harmed without inviting divine retribution was familiar to the ancient Greeks and ancient Egyptians. The related concept of political exile also has a long history. The first international coordination of refugee affairs came with the creation by the League of Nations in 1921 of the High Commission for Refugees and the appointment of Fridtjof Nansen as its head. Nansen and the Commission were charged with assisting the approximately 1,500,000 people who fled the Russian Revolution of 1917 and the subsequent civil war. The rise of Nazism led to such a colossal increase in the number of refugees from Germany that in 1933 the League created a high commission for refugees coming from Germany. Local integration is aiming at providing the refugee with the permanent right to stay in the country of asylum, including, in some situations, as a naturalized citizen. It follows the formal granting of refugee status by the country of asylum. It ‘s hard to quantify the number of refugees who settled and integrated into their first country of asylum, and only the number of naturalizations can give an indication.
